The Nigerian Army has reportedly detained four police officers for allegedly providing unauthorized VIP escort services in violation of President Bola Tinubu’s November 2025 directive withdrawing police personnel from such duties to prioritize crime prevention and internal security.
The arrests took place on December 17 at around 9:30 a.m., according to security sources cited by Zagazola Makama. The officers—ASP Musa Waziri and Insp. Jeremiah Achimogu (both of 45 PMF, Abuja), Insp. Awipi Terry (21 PMF), and Insp. Hassan Baba (50 PMF)—were reportedly dressed in uniforms resembling those of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in an attempt to evade detection.
However, there has been no mention of where the said arrest took place either by Zagazola Makama or any other source.
The said arrested officers are currently detained pending disciplinary proceedings under extant police regulations.
Tinubu’s directive, issued in November, sought to redeploy police officers from VIP escorts to frontline duties amid stretched resources and rising insecurity. While the Inspector-General of Police reported high compliance in Lagos, reports of evasion tactics—including disguises and alleged bribery—have prompted stricter enforcement measures.
Public calls are growing for authorities to reveal the identity of the VIP involved and ensure accountability in line with the president’s directive.
